30-Day Anime Challenge! Day 4: Favorite Female Anime Character Ever

Hey guys, Samurai here once again with the 30 Day Anime Challenge! Yesterday, I picked Wolfwood as my favorite male anime character ever after quite a bit of contemplating. 24 hours later, I now have to pick my favorite FEMALE character, and heaven knows that I had to do EVEN MORE contemplating. With female characters like Sango from Inuyasha, Maka Albarn from Soul Eater, Konata Izumi from Lucky Star, Balsa from Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit, Kino from Kino no Tabi and even Ai Tanabe from Planetes, my decision was pretty hard to make, but make it I did. Check out who I picked after the break!

Day 4: Favorite Female Anime Character Ever – Akari Mizunashi from Aria The Animation/Natural/Origination

Yup. When put up against two demon slayers, a bodyguard, a sharp shooter, and otaku and a freaking sharpshooter, it’s Miss Expert on Happiness that gets my nod.

Akari may not have the physical strength of any of the female characters I listed above, but she has an inner strength and resolve that just blows me away. Here’s a young girl who decides that she wants to become a female gondolier, so what does she do? She packs up, leaves everything she knows and loves on Manhome (Earth), and blasts off millions of miles away to another planet to start a new life for herself. She then goes through months (or years, depending on whose calendar you follow) of training; practicing every single day on her gondola rain or shine, learning the ins and outs of water guiding all the while keeping your passengers from going in the drink. While to some this sounds like a challenge, to Akari, this is simply another wonderful miracle of her life; one of many that she seeks out everyday in her surroundings, the people she meets and the challenges that come her way. She doesn’t lay down and die or cry out for some man to come and save her (I’m looking squarely at you, Kagome…), she faces her challenges with a warm smile on her face and that gentle yet forceful determination that makes you want to root for her every single episode.

Check back tomorrow for Day 5 of the Anime Challenge–“Anime You’re Ashamed You Enjoyed”. Oh, this one is going to be fun…
