Hey there! Samurai here once again trying to get all these “Best Of” posts out before the clock strikes Midnight in the Central Time zone! Will I make it? Let’s find out! Up next, let’s take a look at some of the best broadcast anime in the year that was 2014! There were quite a few contenders for this honor–Blue Exorcist, Black Lagoon, Attack On Titan…the list goes on and on! But I feel that these two anime were the highlight of 2014 on the ‘tube! So, with that out of the way, let’s take a look at the Best Televised Anime of 2014! More after the break.
Pretty much, this movie is what Digimon: The Movie should’ve been and what all other anime movies aspire to be. Summer Wars did more in 1 1/2 hours than most anime do in 300 episodes. It tells a story, gets you invested in the characters, makes you mourn when they mourn, while all the while giving you this feeling of a ticking clock and culminating in the most epic ending I think I have ever seen on broadcast television. It’s an awesome movie, and it’s no wonder that Toonami has broadcast it two years running in December during the “Month of Movies” slot. Koi Koi, Summer Wars…KOI-MUTHA-FREAKING-KOI.
Now, I know what you’re thinking–“GASP! You didn’t give Space Dandy the top slot!? HOW DARE YOU!!!” Or, even better–“BIGGER GASP!! You didn’t give ATTACK ON TITAN the top slot?!” Yup on both counts. In my opinion, Space Dandy was good…real good… dare I say…I liked it better than better than Attack on Titan! But when compared to Summer Wars? Nah. No contest across the board. Given the choice between watching a perfectly done one hour movie, or a multi-episode good anime that doesn’t have that much re-watch value, I’ll take the movie, thanks. But I don’t dare deny the fact that Space Dandy is an awesome show.
And that’s it for Best Televised Anime of 2014! Coming up next, we look at the voices behind the characters of some of our favorite anime! That’s right! Let’s take a look at the Best Male Japanese Voice Actor for the year that was 2014!
