In a move that could be seen a mile away by anyone who even remotely follows the anime industry or uses any kind of logic, US anime giant Funimation Entertainment announced VIA their Facebook page yesterday that they have acquired the license to “Evangelion 3.0 You Can (NOT) Redo”. The announcement was made on the occasion of Funimation’s 1,000,000th “Like” on Facebook. As of this printing, there has been no word on casting or a release date for a Blu-Ray/DVD release, though it can be assumed that all the original cast members from the first two movies will be apart of the production.
“Evangelion 3.0 You Can (NOT) Redo” is the third in a quartet of “reboot” movies known as “Revival of Evangelion” created by veteran anime director Hideaki Anno. The two earlier films, “Evangelion 1.0 You Are (NOT) Alone” and “Evangelion 2.0 You Can (NOT) Advance” were licensed by Funimation Entertainment, and featured the original voice actors and actresses for most of the main cast with some recasting done for key roles.
While the first two movies were mostly based off material from the original anime series that ran in 1995, this latest movie takes a complete left turn, only keeping the characters and some trace elements of the original series. This has caused much confusion and anger among the fan base. Only time will tell if the 4th movie, “Evangelion: Final” will finally bring some semblance of sense to this reboot movie series.
