“Mysterious Girlfriend X” Dub Cast Announced; Evangelion Gets New Credit Card & Shaving Products

Hey guys, Samurai here—Now, don’t give me that look; it’s been a busy month for both me and OtakuAndrain! Both of our reviews should be up and posted in the coming days! In the meantime, here are a couple anime-related news articles that came across my cluttered desk from both Anime News Network and CrunchyRoll over the last few days! More after the break.

Urabe and Tsubaki from "Mysterious Girlfriend X"“Mysterious Girlfriend X” Dub Cast Announced – Now Not Quite So Mysterious

Sentai Filmworks & Section23 Films announced their dub cast for the saliva-swapping romantic anime “Mysterious Girlfriend X”. This show, which enjoyed play on CrunchyRoll in Sub-only format, will be released to the public on DVD and Blu-Ray on June 11th. [So now you can see all the glistening saliva scenes in high definition should you wish…yay…] This project will be helmed by veteran anime director and overall nice guy Christopher Ayres. Below is a table of the dub crew:

Character

English Dub Actors/Actresses

Mikoto Urabe

Genevieve Simmons

Akira Tsubaki

Josh Grelle

Kohei Ueno

Yoko Tsubaki

Carli Mosier

Additional Voices

Hayley Adams, Christopher Ayres, Clint Bickham, Kalin Coates, Tiffany Grant, Jason Grundy, Houston Hayes, Connor Leach, Margaret McDonald, Jeremy Merritt, Carli Mosier, Chris Patton, Tiffany Terrell, and David Wald.

Overall, this has the makings to be a very good dub; A seasoned director at the helm with veteran actors/actresses behind the mike. I have faith that this one might be very well done, and that Chris and crew will put a real spit and polish shine on this project…so to speak.

Visa Produces Evangelion Themed Credit Cards

Unit-01Credit CardLooking to buy that new “Evangelion 3.0” Blu-Ray Special Edition box set in style? Well Visa, in conjunction with Sumitomo Mitsui Bank in Japan, are releasing special edition Evangelion Credit Cards. Yes, Credit Cards. For an annual fee of 1,312 Yen ($13 US), you can have your very own Visa card with your choice of either a silhouetted Rei Ayanami against the moon or a glaring picture of Evangelion Unit-01. Each card will also come with a smartphone case. Evangelion now joins the ranks of “Puella Magi Madoka Magica”, “Lucky Star”, “Gundam” and “Astro Boy”, all of whom have their own character-based credit cards.

Rei Credit CardPersonally, I would settle for the Rei Visa Card…after all, if it gets destroyed, I can always get a copy somewhere. I wouldn’t be too keen on getting an Evangelion Credit Card; it would be hard having a credit card that suddenly went berserk when I pulled it out my wallet…and what’s worse, it would totally suck if I could only use it 5 minutes at a time.

Evangelion Shaving Products 2.0: You Can (NOT) Have Stubble

Evangelion Shaving StandContinuing the theme of “What Else Can We Tie Into Evangelion”, Schick, the shaving company has decided to call upon the cast of Evangelion including a smiling happy version of NERV Commander Gendo Ikari and Rei Ayanami to sling their shaving stuffs. The main draw this time around, aside from a beaming Rei, is Gendo himself, who is not only wearing an uncharacteristically bright grin as he shaves his whiskers with a Schick Hydro 5 razor, but now has spiky gelled hair. This Gendo has been described by Schick as “Mid-Life Crisis Gendo”. The promotion also includes a recharging stand for the Schick Hydro 5 with a model of either an Evangelion or Rei attached.

The Evangelion Shaving Display featuring Mid-Life Crisis Gendo...oh have mercy...You know, there are some things that just naturally fit together in my mind: Peanut Butter and Jelly, Gasoline and Car Engine, Greg Ayres and Hair Dye, Chicken Noodle Soup and Soda, Vic Mignogna and Rabid Fangirls, James Bond and Vodka Martinis [Shaken, not stirred, of course.] These things make sense because they go together. For the life of me, I cannot see the tie in between Evangelion and shaving products…not at all. When I watch “Evangelion”…I don’t immediately think “Hmm, I could do with a shave…” And lets be honest…would YOU trust Gendo Ikari of all people to sell you ANYTHING? But hey, whatever works…
