A Review of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha: Here comes The Friendship Beam!

Hey everyone, so I’ve officially lost my mind and you’re all getting pulled along for the ride! What do I mean? Well I’m about to take a 3 for 1 look for everyone. That’s right the next three posts are only gonna count as one review for the Quota? Why? Because I care. So without further Ado let’s get started. This is my review of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha the Anime

Warnings and Objectionable Content- OH YEAH this series is heavy on the fanservice mostly featuring the real definition of the nude transformation. It really isn’t about sexualizing anyone… so while this might not be suitable for all people. It’s not completely and totally tasteless either.

Story/Premise: This is the story of Nanoha Takamachi. A happy ordinary 9 year old girl. Full Nuclear family normal as heck life.  Until she one day meets an injured little Ferret who starts talking to her telepathically. Apparently there are these Ancient artifacts known as the Lost Logia, that cause lots of trouble. These specific Lost Logia, the Jewel Seeds are currently scattered around the conveniently small area of Nanoha’s town. They tend to corrupt things and our little Ferret friend, an Archeologist named Yuno, eventually finds himself giving the girl a red jewel around his neck. This is the Intelligent Device Raising Heart (In the subs it was wrong for the LONGEST time calling it Raging Heart. Don’t worry about that.) which allows for the transformation and the birth of the Mage codenamed Lyrical. Monster of the Week and then standard rival to make things interesting whom she befriends in the end (While starting a beautiful tradition!). Not gonna lie, this isn’t a new anime and this is about as programmed as a premise as you get. I gotta take points off, no matter how brilliant the execution this has been done before. (20/25)

Characters: Nanoha Takamachi- Like I said Nanoha is a normal kid, Got a full family, friends, well she has this slight complex though of not feeling like she completely belongs. Still though she’s someone you can count on as our Mascot shows us. It’s hard not to sing her praises.

Yuno Scyra- The Ferret and our Magicl mascot, performs all functions as determined of a mascot including guidance and training. Does he fall for Naona since he has a human form… well… kinda but… Not that kind of series

Fate Testrarosa- The Rival! She wants the Jewel Seeds for her own purposes?! What are they?! Why can’t she get along with Nanoha?! Her intelligent Device takes the form of a Pole Ax and is known as Bardiche.

Nanoha’s world is bright and full of various people. Also HER FAMILY IS ACTULLY THERE! Strange stuff man… Anyway we’re given a fantastic cast that I’m sure you’re all are gonna like. If you’re not loving the cast wait till the next series. The characters there are even better, points taken up off to prove that (22/25).

Animation- Beautiful! Combat has never been this good! Nanoha’s Divine Buster and of course… My favorite Attack of ALL of Anime… ALL OF ANIME! Nanoha’s Finisher… The Starlight Breaker. Whenever I see this technique I get goosebumps and I know… Friendship is here. Oh, she only uses it once in the first series… whoo weee it is beautiful still. (12.5/12.5)

Music- Our Openig this time is Sung by Mizuki Nana you’ll probably remember me fanboying over her from before. It’s called Innocent Starter and is a beautiful song about Nanoha and Fate for certain. The ending is called Little Wish by Yukari Tamara. It’s definitely a cute more girly song that certainly fits Nanoha. Battle we got the basic high intensity classical music that just accents a heavy battle. It does its work accenting but not overtaking. Over all the music in this series is top notch as well. (12.5/12.5)

Production- Well folks, I’m sorry I have not watched the dub of this season. Why? Well you’re gonna have to blame is on Yukari Tamara and Mizuki Nana. Our two stars… these characters were aboslutly made for these two. Tamara-san and her portrayal of Nanoha’s special blend of youthfulness, but forced growth with her ups and downs but her commitment to those who are determined to be her precious people. Tamara-san was absolutely perfect in her role, you could feel how much work he put into Nanoha over the years. She’s the only one that could make the grade for me. Then there’s Fate played by Mizuki Nana. Like I said before Mizuki Nana has been in like everything and plays some of the most beloved characters in all of anime. She’s everywhere but Fate is one of her first and biggest roles. She does it masterfully Fate Testarosa is a very complex character an Nana-san plays the quiet pained reflective girl in such a way that just forces my heart to….

Hazukashii Serifu Kinshii!! (Embarrassing comments are prohibited!)

Sorry, sorry, anyway. This whole production was done beautifully. Our director Shinbo Akiyuki deserves special praise. I really really enjoyed this ride throughout. It was a fantastic Anime that only has room to get better and better (23/25)

Scoring Summary:

Story Breakdown – 20/25
Characters – 25/25
Animation – 12.5/12.5
Music – 12.5/12.5
Performance and Production – 23/25

Final Score – 93/100 = 93% – A

Well let’s see of special note. The Canon of this series for reasons which will be explained later lead to a release of Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha THE MOVIE 1st. Canonically this was made after the third season, however I’m told it is a fine shorting of this season. I like watching the whole thing myself, but, there’s no reason why you can’t get the same emotions watching something that came out a lot later. In fact I suggest watching both of them! I will later.

Oh! And in case you need any more reason to watch this series. I’m just gonna leave this here…

Next Up I’m going to move onto introducing everyone to Nanoha by moving onto the next series in the Saga, another Lost Logia has gone crazy and it’s time for Nanoha and Fate to make a few new friends. Next time I’ll psot about…

Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha A’s

See yuh guys next time.
