The Best of 2011: “Best Male Anime Character of 2011”

Well, will you look at that! In about a week from now, 2011 will be but a distant memory and 2012 will be upon us! I was thinking it would be nice if, for the rest of the year, I would take a look back at some of my favorite things in the world of anime from the past year! Next, we take a look at the best male anime character of 2011!

Best Male Anime Character of 2011: Daikichi Kawachi from “Usagi Drop”

Daikichi is your typical salaryman living a typical bachelor lifestyle, until a trip to his grandfathers funeral and a chance encounter with a young girl named Rin changes his life forever. Daikichi now suddenly finds himself dealing with the day-to-day challenges of being a single parent. He makes tough sacrifices with regards to his job, his health, and his personal life to make sure that Rin has a shot at a good life. What makes Daikichi the best male anime character in my book is the fact that he takes all this responsibility himself. He makes the initial decision to let Rin stay with him, he makes the decision to give up his cushy job to ensure he’s always there for her after school, and he makes changes to his personal life to ensure that he will be healthy enough so he can stick around while she grows up. That is no small sacrifice! So, for being one of the most stand-up fellows in anime of the last 11 months, Daikichi Kawachi from “Usagi Drop” earns the Best Male Anime Character of 2011 award!

    1. For me, it was a no-brainier. Daikichi was the best of the best this year for all the reasons I listed above and then some. I didn’t even mention the fact how he tends to help others, and acts as a de facto “Father figure” to Kouki. Daikichi is an all around great guy, and he wins it hands down.
